Description
This is a work in progress featuring Aphrodite and Hephaestas. Aphrodite was so beautiful that Zeus, fearing the gods would war over her hand, married her off to the lame and ugly god of the forge, Hephaestas. That didn't stop Aphrodite from having other love affairs, but I imagine that Aphrodite often longed for freedom, which I tried to portray in this drawing. Also, Aphrodite was often associated with swan, thus the title.
Since I'm taking two mythology classes this semester, you can expect a lot of myth-related art in the next few months, lol.
Pencil, then ink, then colored pencil. Hopefully one day it will be colored in Photoshop/Painter.

The story I heard about Aphrodite and Hephaestus (from our adorable prof) was that Hera was mistreating Hephaestus (as usual) and so he built her this beautiful throne, but when she sat in it, it bound her to it and nobody could get her out. All the gods tried, and all the gods begged and pleaded and even threatened Hephaestus to let her out, but he refused, and left her there, returning to his forge to continue working in solitude. But then Dionysus came to Hephaestus with news: that Zeus had promised Aphrodite's hand in marriage to whoever could free Hera from the throne. Hephaestus agreed to do it, and he and Aphrodite were married soon after.
